Q: Are there any specific combinations of colour that you use to set the mood for an event?
A: When I am working on an event it’ s
important for me that every space, every room that people go in, we try to have different colours. For example, if it’ s a cocktail party we will do only one colour and then the actual ceremony would be white or colour. I always love that when you go to an event you go to every room and you have a different colour experience. Weddings can last so long, you want it to be exciting, you want your guests to talk about the decorations, so it is important to really do different colours in all the different spaces.
Q: Do you have any rule of design? A: I always tell people there is the
Leatham rule and it is to keep everything Clean, Simple and Chic. Always choose no more than three colours for flowers, or monochromatic. As an example: white, cream and green. Never use more than three types of flowers. I think if you stick with the“ three rule” then you can never go wrong working with flowers.
Q: Flowers can influence many different emotions in people. Do they cause an emotion in you to surface while you are setting up each installation?
A: Not during, because when I am
working with flowers I don’ t think about“ Oh, this flower is so pretty!” When I am working with flowers I am thinking about creating and finishing and then sometimes, like you watched today, sometimes when I finish something I will be very proud of what I did and look back and take a photo, share it with the
