“Boldly go forward”
What’s the Point?
Convenience, everything in the home can be maintained with just
a remote control, laptop or mobile phone or it can be programmed
which creates a lot of practical benefits. Things like turning the lights
on when you walk into a room and when you leave turning them
off again, or when you get to your front door unlocking it because it
knows it is you, or how about monitoring when your kids get home
from school and sending you a text or email.
For those dealing with a sick family member a Smart Home provides
serious benefits for family caregivers. By integrating home healthcare
equipment, such as monitoring and diagnostic tools, smart homes
could simplify the caregiving process for the hundreds of millions of
adults worldwide who care for an elderly, ailing, or infirm parent or relative. For example, a smart home might allow you to monitor the movements of a relative suffering from dementia.
While this may sound like something from Star Trek it is in fact a reality and the speed at which technology is changing it seems it just
the start.
Growing market
Smart Home technology is still a niche market, despite the continuous
development over the past 10 and more years, it is forecast that by
2020 40% of the population will have implemented smart technology
within their home which in part will be driven, by the rising tablet market as Smart home enthusiasts have increasingly found the tablet as
an effective remote control to manage all of the systems. Additional
with a decrease in the costs of smart technologies; increased government regulation regarding energy consumption and increased energy
costs Smart technology will be the only way to “Boldly go forward”.
