How to
make
wood
work for
you....
If you prefer solid wood, you may
find options limited, as not all species
are available of sufficiently stable for
cabinetmaking. There is more choice in
veneer – thin sheets of timber glued to a
stable structure.
There are many finishes that can
give the wood an individual look.
Pigments rubbed into the grain and
sanded can emphasise the natural
figuring, while dyes and stains can
be used to soften or stress the
grain effect.
Traditionally wood was lacquered with
a stain finish, but durable matt lacquers
are becoming increasingly popular
because they create more natural
appearance as well as protect the wood
creating a much more durable long
lasting kitchen.
Just because wood is a traditional
material, it doesn’t mean that your style
of cabinetry must be so.
To highlight the sense of movement
contrast your wooden kitchen with an
ultra-smooth work surface, such as
solid acrylics or stainless steel.
Wooden kitchens should be the focal
point so ensure your colour scheme
blends harmoniously with the colour or
stain of the wood grain, creams, muted
greys & charcoal all work beautifully.
Avoid purples, pinks and orange.
