Advice from Red Hong-Yi

Advice from Red Hong-Yi

“ Looking back now, and after talking to so many creatives, that feeling of fear is central to creativity because our work is personal. When you create something, a piece of art, or an essay, when you put it out there, you are essentially telling people that,“ Here, I made this. What do you think?” That power is given to them. They will look at it, and they will choose to respond and react in their own way. But that is the only way to truly share our work with the world. And it will make all the difference. At the time, I was gripped with fear and kept asking myself,“ What do I do now? Do I delete my account, or do I continue?” Fear is powerful because if you have fear, you will stop being creative. Fear keeps businesses from ever happening. Fear keeps the books and blogs remain unwritten. Fear silences ideas. And the worst thing about fear is that it makes us want to be comfortable, safe and not challenge the status quo. At that point in time, I thought,“ Okay, this year I will not give in to fear and will go ahead despite them.” So I continued making art.”
