PAUSE. ITS A
MOMMY
Pitney Bowes, a Great
Place to Work® Certifi ed TM
organisation, has introduced
a unique policy for women
employees on maternity
breaks wherein performance
rating for the new mother is
sealed on the basis of her last
two years’ performance. It is
calculated by taking last year’s
rating, or the average of last
two years rating, whichever
is higher. This gives a fair
chance to women on maternity
break for career growth and
development.
90 percent of the people who
join McDonald’s (India), start
at frontline roles and come
from tough socio-economic
background. Upon noting this
trend and closely analysing the
needs and desires of this group,
the organisation realised
the value of education for
these employees. Since then,
McDonald’s has partnered
with various educational
institutes across India to
offer undergraduate and
postgraduate programmes
at subsidised fees to its
employees. All those who join
these courses under the Learn-
While-You-Earn program also
get 48 days of paid leave during
the year to study. By looking
after its employees and willing
to impact their lives positively,
McDonald’s has been successful
at building high levels of
respect and loyalty that drive
performance.
How does Google nurture
a culture where its people are
always learning? At Google, 80
percent of all tracked trainings
are run through an employee-
to-employee network called
G2G (Googler-to-Googler).
The G2G program offers the
employees a chance to share
their passions and expertise
with one another. Most of
the popular classes under the
program focus on general
professional skills (negotiation
and leadership) and role-related
skills (sales training and
coding). It has helped upskill a
good number of employees and
avail them new opportunities.
E.g. as mobile computing
on smartphones exploded,
thousands of Googlers went
through an Android training
bootcamp conducted by their
very co-workers who worked on
Android.
