It is feasible to incorporate this
content into didactic education.
However, clinical practice sites
focusing on wellness rather than
illness are limited due to predomi-
nate illness care reimbursement
structures in the U.S. healthcare
system. This current reimburse-
ment structure results in an
inadequate number of wellness-
focused clinical sites and regis-
tered nurses who practice in this
wellness model.
To develop these competen-
cies, several schools of nursing
in Pennsylvania have identified
nurse-led wellness centers (NL-
WCs) as a innovative clinical
practice setting to provide mean-
ingful student clinical experi-
ence. This article describes how
nurse-led wellness models of care
for baccalaureate (BSN) nursing
students clinical experiences meet
critical wellness competencies.
This article highlights requisite
collaboration to support success-
ful nurse-led wellness models pro-
viding BSN students with clinical
practice experience.

Nurse-led wellness centers are a
subset of nurse-led health clinics
(NLHC), which are academic- or
community-based health centers.
In these settings, primary care
services are provided by nurse
practitioners. NLHC: operate un-

community based; provide service

include oversight by advanced
practice nurses (Hansen-Turton,
