LOWER SCHOOL
A renovated Lower School within the Lyford Cay gates
will eventually serve 300 students. Classrooms will be
tailor-made to enhance learning for students starting at
age two in a new nursery programme through to Grade 5
and ensure a safe and aesthetically appealing campus
experience for all children. Renovations to the existing
campus have already begun, and the Lower School will
continue to evolve with a multi-year transformation plan,
concurrent with the construction of the Upper School.
Curriculums and programmes will be enhanced by
specialist rooms for music, art, sciences and languages.
The reconfiguration and upgrading of spaces will further
enhance learning.
Phase One of the Lower School began with the summer
2015 improvements to landscaping and grounds.
Beginning in summer 2016, work will be focused on the
new kitchen facilities and renovation of the ELC, allowing
for ample classroom space for two classes per grade. A
new multipurpose space will be constructed that allows
for dining, performances, assemblies, indoor play space
and performing arts classes. Once the Secondary
students move to the Upper School, major renovations
can occur to the administration building and current
classroom facilities over time. General classrooms will
be expanded and connected, allowing for collaborative
interdisciplinary instruction. A new Learning Commons
will be designed to give access to traditional and
electronic information systems.
Further phases of the master plan for the Lower School
include a new Nursery programme for two-year olds
and a purpose-built space, allowing for innovation and
design in the combined areas of science, technology,
engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM). Additional
renovations to specialist rooms and the athletic building
will complete the upgrading of learning facilities. Finally,
landscape and play spaces will be enhanced to give
students ample outdoor recreational opportunities.
