THROUGH BEING AN ACTIVE PART OF OUR COMMUNITY , WE EXPLORE WHO WE ARE , WHAT WE CAN OFFER TO OTHERS AND THOSE AREAS IN WHICH WE WOULD LIKE TO IMPROVE .

SERVICE LEARNING

By : Dr Deanna Milne , CAS & Service Learning Coordinator and IB English & Humanities Teacher
Service is an important aspect of our lives . Not just because the International Baccalaureate ( IB ) requires it , but because through service we are able to learn new skills , learn about each other and learn about ourselves . Through being an active part of our community , we explore who we are , what we can offer to others and those areas in which we would like to improve .
One of the great things about the LCIS community is our consistent commitment to service . From our inception , service has been considered a part of our identity , not something we have to “ add on ” to our routines . In the 2019-20 school year , our students had the chance to learn about some of the challenges that may be faced when planning events and how to consider the ethical implications of their actions . They played a larger role in planning and initiating service activities within and outside of the school .
