Travel

Maldives: An Isolated Paradise

The rather isolated island of the Maldives has ironically (and fittingly) become a complete vendor for tourism. Enjoy the sandy beaches, and little islands that glitter beautifully over the warm sun. The Maldives could also be said to be in the same competing rank of the Pulau Seribu (Thousand Islands) of Indonesia.

However, it does not take a thousand islands to make the Maldives a success. The nation has its own swirl of distinction.

Male, the capital, is smaller than Bali, but just as exotic and mystifying. The city is located near other islands. In Indonesia, there are no connections to go there through flights, so one must travel by sea to take a look at the islands.

This clearly defines the country’s epithet as “The Isolated Paradise” (it somehow hints an oxymoron). It lies on the middle of the Indian Ocean. However, let this not discourage you from coming. One of the potential jewels of the nation is also due to its accommodation.

One of the most esteemed vacation spots found in the nation is the Four Seasons Resort; its strategic location is unlike any other vacation center situated in the capital but yet totally closed off from the hustle and bustle of the people makes it an ideal choice for the perfect vacation/honeymoon. So what are you waiting for? Rip those wallets open! Smash that Piggy Bank, and feel the radiant glow of the Maldives.

Meanwhile in West Egg...

A Book Discussion on "The Great Gatsby"

Money. Power. Scandal. Mystery. Basically the elements that become the solid foundation of a good story. Do not underestimate the level of difficulty for putting these four components together, it’s easy to make it a book but, it’s not exactly a walk in the park (although a good number of authors have done this to let their mind wander) to make a good book.

However, Fitzgerald’s literary skills have reached its golden peak in this very book. I sometimes wonder whether I’m enjoying the book or whether I’m just drooling over the fact that he writes with such flow, such elegance and such richness that it would not be a surprise if it got a few nods from the kings and queens of other countries (it probably did).

The story takes us to the prosperous aristocratic area of West Egg. In the eyes of Yale graduate and World War I veteran, Nick Carraway. His neighbor, the charming, the wonderful, the great Jay Gatsby throws the most explosive of parties (which is most opportune, seeing that the book is set in the Roaring Twenties). Yet, with his piles and piles of cash, his car, his mansion and his parties comes a darker side (as we all yearn to see) of his life. Secrets and scandal that unfolds beautifully in the book.

After the first chapter, I would be amazed that the book has already spun you around and smashed you into pieces of pulp (if you seriously feel nothing, listen to the audiobook and prepare to feel your ears burst with amazement and intrigue). I will say no more. Read it Hear it. Anything, just don’t watch the movie yet!
