Intercultural Understanding

The general capability of Intercultural Understanding is essential for students to be able to act, behave and live harmoniously with others in the world.

Students develop intercultural understanding when they "learn and value their own:

Cultures

Langauages and beliefs

Those of others"

Intercultural understanding allows students to learn about and engage with different cultures so as to recognise " commonalities and differences, create connections with others and cultivate mutal respect" (ARACA, 2011c, p.134

Intercultual understanding is inlcuded in Christan and Public Schools because according to ACARA ( 2011c, p. 134) it:

" Stimulates students' interests in the lves of others" through developing values and beliefs such as " curiosity, care, empathy, reciprocity, repect and resposibilty, one-mindness and critical awareness, and supports new and postive intercultural behaviours."
