Waste water transfer pumps for Li-ion recycling
As the use of lithium-ion batteries continues to grow across everything from electric vehicles to power tools, efficient battery recycling is becoming an essential part of modern mineral recovery.
A project developer of a new battery recycling facility required a total of six li-ion wastewater transfer pumps- four to move fluid at a range of flows from 1000L to 6000L an hour, and another two to deliver 25L to 1000L per hour for the dosing of chemicals, for treatment of wastewater.
Why peristaltic pumps are effective for Li-ion Wastewater Peristaltic Pumps possess various unique design features, making them inherently suitable for li-ion battery wastewater.
These include:
Abrasive slurry handling Battery recycling and manufacturing wastewater can contain sharp, solid metal particles. The pump’ s low speed, hard wearing rubber horse and smooth gentle action ensures gritty slurries are more effectively than many traditional pump designs.
Non-Conductive The main contact parts of peristaltic pumps are the rubber hose, and fittings mounted to the suction and discharge of the pump – both specifiable in either rubber, plastic or stainless steel- non-conductive parts, further protecting the process from electrical current being carried from anodes, electrolytes, or cathodes during mechanical processing.
Free from Nickel, Copper or Zinc
When recycling nickel, copper, or zinc, it is essential that pipework, pumps, and associated equipment are manufactured from compatible materials to prevent contamination. The introduction of unwanted metals can create impurities that are difficult and costly to remove, often requiring additional processing and complex separation methods. If these impurities cannot be effectively eliminated, they can significantly reduce the value of the recovered raw materials.
No fluid contact As fluid only makes contact with the inside of the replaceable tube or hose, it protects the pump’ s mechanical components from aggressive chemicals and acids in the wastewater. For added protection, the pumps casing can be coated in Halar / ECTFE- a high performing non-conductive lining providing protection from corrosive chemicals and, or a leakage sensor fitted to stop pump operation should the hose rupture or begin to leak.
Seal Less Design One of the most common issues in abrasive fluid handling is pump seals failing. Small, sharp abrasive particles can become lodged in seal faces or cut elastomers causing leakage. As this design of pump doesn’ t contain a seal, it ensures a point of failure is eliminated.
Consistent Performance As peristaltic pumps are positive displacement, they offer predictable and consistent performance regardless of fluid density, viscosity or solid content. As flow is directly proportional to speed and not at the expense of pressure, it is far easier to alter and predict output.
Easy maintenance As the flexible hose is the only wearing part, it’ s been designed for quick and simple replacement without specialist repair kits, complex strip-downs or lengthy cleaning
Given the low flows and the nature of the client’ s applications we put forward our FMP and AMP range of peristaltic pumps with motor mounted inverters. The AMP and FMP range are built incorporating heavy-duty gearboxes which contain additional ball bearings for ensuring greater longevity during long periods of pump operation.
