Level measurement in the digital age
Today’ s process plant operators increasingly expect more from their instrumentation, with functional safety, predictive maintenance and digital communications capabilities becoming as important as measurement accuracy.
Endress + Hauser’ s Micropilot FMR6xB family of radar level sensors combines proven measurement technology with enhanced connectivity, simplified operation and integrated diagnostics designed for the modern era.
One platform for multiple industries
The FMR6xB family covers a broad spectrum of industrial applications from liquid storage tanks and demanding chemical processes to hygienic installations and bulk solids measurement. For operators managing multiple sites or diverse production processes, this can help simplify training, commissioning and life cycle maintenance. Across the range, 80 GHz radar technology improves measurement performance even in confined installations and vessels containing internal obstructions.
Safety designed into every stage
Safety has been integrated into the entire user experience. Developed in accordance with IEC 61508, the Micropilot FMR6xB family can be deployed in SIL 2 or SIL 3 circuits. Guided commissioning and prooftest wizards minimise systematic errors by taking users through each step in a structured sequence, making commissioning faster and reducing training requirements.
The inclusion of Heartbeat Technology also supports safety by enabling traceable verification of instrument performance without interrupting the process. Verification can typically be completed in just a few minutes while the instrument remains operational.
Heartbeat Technology also identifies process conditions such as foam formation or product build-up that could affect measurement reliability, supporting predictive maintenance strategies and reducing unplanned shutdowns.
Simpler commissioning and maintenance
Using Bluetooth connectivity and the SmartBlue app, engineers can commission, configure and diagnose instruments wirelessly from a safe location, even when devices are installed in difficult-to-access locations. This reduces the need to work at height or enter hazardous areas simply to perform routine configuration tasks.
Ready for digitalisation
Alongside established 4 – 20 mA HART and PROFIBUS communication, the new generation radar family forms part of Endress + Hauser’ s comprehensive Ethernet-APL portfolio. Ethernet-APL provides faster access to device parameters, improved remote configuration and more informative diagnostic data. It also simplifies integration with asset management operational performance systems, allowing maintenance teams to identify developing problems before they affect production.
Building the connected plant
Modern instrumentation must deliver more than dependable measurements. By combining proven radar measurement performance with integrated diagnostics, functional safety capabilities and modern digital communications, the Micropilot FMR6xB family can help operators address operational requirements – now and into the future.
