Modernised copper processing in Rwanda and Zambia: How Monometer is supporting emerging industrial Markets
A new area of growth in copper trade for certain countries across Africa is rising, supported by Monometer’ s supply of new melting technology. This is technology offering reliable, high-quality metal processing for the conversion of scrap materials to specification ingot suitable for export. This export of ingot from such countries as Zambia and Rwanda is new and emerging, supported by newly established local manufacturing capacity utilising exclusively Monometer furnaces and ancillary equipment.
These installations support regional valueadded production. However, performing effectively in emerging industrial areas requires more than equipment alone; it requires technical understanding, robust systems, and effective operator training for a working partnership to succeed.
Monometer has been working closely within these markets, our recent project in Rwanda comprising the installation and commissioning of a complete melting and casting system— including a Monometer rotary furnace, casting machine, and filtration unit— now fully operational and producing copper ingots to specification.
This achievement reflects more than a successful installation. It demonstrates Monometer’ s ability to deliver reliable, well-engineered solutions in regions where infrastructure, a workforce of often limited experience and feedstock variations, present unique demands. These are not projects that succeed through equipment alone; they succeed through practical expertise, training, planning, and hands-on support— areas in which Monometer has built a strong reputation over decades.
Both Rwanda and Zambia are seeing a gradual shift toward more controlled, professionalised metal-processing operations, and our ongoing work in these regions places Monometer in a position of early leadership. The technical complexity of establishing such facilities— from material handling to furnace performance to achieving consistent casting quality— requires specialist knowledge that cannot be improvised or quickly replicated.
As production continues in Rwanda, the results reinforce what we have long believed: that well-designed rotary furnace systems, implemented with care and supported by experience, enable meaningful industrial progress. Monometer is committed to supporting this advancement, building long-term partnerships, and ensuring that new facilities in emerging markets operate safely, efficiently, and to a consistently high standard.
