CONTROL & AUTOMATION BESPOKE AUTOMATION LEUZE LEUZE 2D CODE READERS FULFIL CHALLENGING ROLE IN AUTOMATED TYRE INFLATION LINE Autarky Automation, a leading UK developer and manufacturer of bespoke automation and conveying systems, opted for the latest Leuze 2D code readers to help meet the demands of an automated tyre inflation line established at the Daventry, UK plant of Tyre- Line, a specialist in the provision of wheel and tyre assemblies for everything from wheelbarrows to high-performance sports cars. The code readers are used to identify assemblies by capturing data from barcodes that can be mounted at any point on the wheel diameter, and at any location across the conveyor’s width. Founded in 1972, East Grinstead-based Autarky Automation helps customers to improve the productivity, reliability, safety 44 PECM Issue 42 and functionality of automation and conveying systems, while reducing waste, maintenance costs and downtime. Modular conveyor technology forms a significant part of the company’s offer, enabling sophisticated automation systems to be developed quickly, safely and efficiently in sectors such as automotive, food, medical, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, electronics, plastics, domestic products and aerospace. In particular, Autarky’s modular conveyor technology, with a wide range of standardised components and accessories, allows a flexible approach to line construction and subsequent modification, helping to minimise project planning times and assembly costs. A case in point can be seen with a recent project for Tyre-Line, which has been supplying industry with wheel and tyre assemblies since 1984. Tyre-Line had been running with a basic tyre inflator for standard steel wheel assemblies, while performing the inflation of tyres for high-end alloy wheels manually. However, with ongoing order growth, the company sought to improve throughput by acquiring a Hofmann tyre inflation machine that would accommodate its entire range of wheel and tyre assemblies. Once installed, Tyre-Line wanted to automate the process of assemblies entering and leaving the machine, putting out a tender for a suitable conveyor system. The tender was won by Autarky.
