Include substantial levels of automotive, medical technology, marine and high-tech manufacturing activity throughout the south east, and the value of the event to the engineering supply chain becomes self-evident. Furthermore, as the majority of companies supporting these industries are SMEs, Southern Manufacturing’s inclusive format, which supports participation from a wide variety of specialist enterprises, creates a distinctively vibrant marketplace with an extraordinarily wide appeal. The event is split roughly equally between manufacturing and electronics. In the former, the Production, Machinery and Tooling area is perhaps the most popular, providing visitors the chance to discover the latest offerings from many of the UK’s foremost vendors. Firms exhibiting for 2020 include Bystronic, C. Dugard, Haas Automation, Hurco, Laser Lines, Matsuura Machinery, Mitutoyo, TRUMPF, XYZ Machine Tools and Yamazaki Mazak. Other well known names include AMF Andreas Maier, Faro, MecWash, Brady, Henkel, Bruderer and Roemheld. Engineering service providers exhibiting include Orbital Fabrications, Perfect Bore, Rose Plastic, Twickenham Plating, Washington Metalwork, Southern Springs & Pressings, MJ Allen and many more. The electronics aspect offers a wealth of production and inspection products from firms for example Blundell Production Equipment, Mycronic, AdoptSMT, ASM Assembly Systems and PACE Europe amongst others. Component vendors include ESI Technology, Wurth Electronics, TDK Lambda, Luso Electronics, the Rebound Group, comprising Easby Electronics, Delta Impact and Rebound Electronics, plus major European vendors such as Austria’s CODICO, Transfer Multisort Elektronik and Yamaichi Electronics. The scores of service suppliers taking part range from award-winning design consultancies such as Bytesnap Design, full contract manufacturing from firms such as JJS Manufacturing, Volburg SIA, and PCB production from European Circuits, MV Circuit Technology and Shenzen X-Mulong amongst many others. Following last year’s successful alliance, Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2020 will once more be partnering with the Farnborough Aerospace Consortium, alongside prestigeous national bodies including Composites UK, NetComposites, the Confederation of British Metalforming, the GTMA and the British Gear Association. Also taking part this year is Locate in Kent, an organisation offering a wide range of services and support to firms looking to locate in the region. Together with the exhibition and demonstration zones, the complimentary seminar programme is a hugely popular element. Two programmes run in tandem in two theatres, devoted to manufacturing and electronics respectively. Topics discussed will include the latest developments in advanced manufacturing technology, innovation, digital transformations in manufacturing, Lean, marketing and a review of the current regulatory landscape in areas such as CE marking. Farnborough International Conference and Exhibition Centre provides complimentary car parking for 3,500 vehicles and is well- served by road and public transport links. A regular free shuttle bus service operates from both of Farnborough’s mainline railway stations directly to the event.
