MEASUREMENT & MONITORING
ISO 17025 Calibration Services Hand Held Temperature Probes
Accredited calibrations for pressure, electrical,
flow and air velocity instruments via UKAS
Laboratory 0604, offering reliable, quick
turnaround and affordable sensor calibration
for process & control instruments. Many of the
calibrations are also available as onsite services,
both traceable and ISO 17025 accredited.
Bespoke services are available for thermal
uniformity surveys of for ovens, freezers and
autoclaves. Comprising of a handle, 2 metre coiled cable and
mini plug. They are suitable for use in corrosive
material tests and high temperature molten
metal measurements.
A comprehensive selection, including:
Further extensions to our UKAS accreditation
schedule are in process to extend our scope of
calibration services soon. The accredited flow
rigs and wind tunnels continue to offer world
leading measurement uncertainty for UKAS air
velocity calibrations on pitot, thermal, vane, cup,
omni-spherical and ultrasonic anemometers
across 0.05 to 80 m/s and for air and fluid
flowmeters.

Sensor device and method
for detecting gear damage in
rotating elements in housing
GTR-01
The company PCE Process Control Electronic
GmbH in cooperation with DELTEC electronic
GmbH has developed a sensor device and a
method to detect damage to rotating parts in
a closed housing. Tests on ferromagnetic gears
have been suc-cessfully carried out so far. The
housing was made of die-cast aluminium. The
pro-cess uses magnetic fields: Electromagnets
generate magnetic fields, while a Hall sensor
picks up the resulting fields.
A special evaluation program determines
whether a defective part is present. The damage
can, for example, consist of a par-tially or
completely broken tooth or a crack. Device
options allow the speed and di-rection of
rotation of the rotating part to be determined.
The device can also be used for continuous
monitoring on machines.

HBM data acquisition amplifier
module operates under harsh
conditions
Test and measurement expert HBM has
expanded its range of data acquisition modules
with the SomatXR MX1609TB-R. This amplifier
is part of the industry standard’s SomatXR
family, and provides engineers with a reliable
and flexible solution to measuring temperature,
particularly in harsh operating conditions.
With 16 channels and a sample rate of up to
100 kS/s per channel, the MX1609TB-R is shock
resistant with an IP54/IP67 degree of protection,
which makes it ideal for use in measurement
tasks within a wide range of applications,
such as mobile measurement and tests with
off-highway vehicles, stationary measurements,
tests on infrastructures and field tests in harsh
environments.

API Launches Laser Tracker
Rental and Rent-To-Own
Programs
API offers Laser Tracker in a rental program,
which allows manufacturers to gain access
to API’s benchmark RADIAN laser tracker to
perform specific measurements, alignments
and calibration tasks or overcome periods of
bottleneck for its own portable measurement
equipment. API trackers can be rented with
metrology software or own software daily,
weekly or for longer periods.
API also provides a unique rent-to-buy program,
interesting when company’s equipment
investment process is lengthy but the need for a
laser tracker is immediate.
API Europe also performs on-site measurement
services in addition to performing laser tracker
accuracy verifications in the field and laser
tracker calibrations at its certified laboratory.

Advanced elbow scanner
added to rental fleet
Ashtead Technology has added the Olympus
FlexoFORM™ pipe elbow scanner to its rental
fleet of Non Destructive Testing equipment.
“This is part of a major investment in our NDT
fleet,” says NDT Market Manager Steve Drake.
“The FlexoFORM is an extremely important
addition because it complements our other pipe
inspection equipment and provides a solution
for many particularly challenging applications.
“Pipe elbows are susceptible to damage from
issues such as flow-accelerated corrosion (FAC),
but they can be difficult to inspect because their
shape changes from convex to concave, and of
course pipe diameters vary widely.”
The scanner can be used with an OmniScan®
MX2 or SX instrument to measure remaining
wall thickness, and detect corrosion pitting and
mid-wall laminations or inclusions.
