HEALTH & SAFETY DRIVING UP STANDARDS ROSPA A GROWING NETWORK OF NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL H&S EXPERTS The RoSPA Health and Safety Awards, now into its 63rd year, aims to promote best practice in workplaces around the world to drive up standards and ensure that no-one is harmed or made ill while doing their job. We want to make sure that every worker goes home at the end of every day safe and well to their families. The Awards scheme is recognised across the world, and currently receives entries from organisations in over 30 countries across the globe, that have a combined reach of more than seven million employees. health and safety management capability is rooted in the care and concern shown by its culture. Central to the continuing success and growing influence of the RoSPA Awards is the dedication and commitment of its winners, with several having now picked up the prestigious RoSPA Patron’s Award, given only to those with more than 25 years of Gold-level achievement. Colas Limited was named winner of the Construction Engineering Sector, with Wessex Engineering and Construction Services being Highly Commended; and Nuvia Limited was crowned winner of the Engineering Services Sector, with Vanderlande Industries UK Limited being Highly Commended. Entrants large and small come from all sectors, with many having engineering at their core. In 2018 (to name a few!), Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company was the winner of the Chemical Sector Award; But taking the overall “best in show” prize – the Sir George Earle Trophy – in 2018 was National Physical Laboratory, with the judging panel of industry experts noting that the strength of the organisation’s 120 PECM Issue 37 The RoSPA Awards is underpinned and driven by up-to-date occupational safety and health policy, setting it apart from any other industry awards scheme.
