MTC APPRENTICES BENEFIT
FROM WORLD-CLASS TRAINING
The Advanced Manufacturing Training
Centre, on the Manufacturing Technology
Centre campus at Ansty Park in Coventry,
is trebling the number of apprentices
it trains. The industry-leading centre,
sponsored by Lloyds Bank, is to provide
training for 300 high quality apprentices a
year by 2020.
AMTC apprentices are highly-regarded
in industry and are exactly what the
manufacturing sector is looking for
to fill the high-tech jobs of the future.
AMTC apprenticeship courses have the
advantage of not being company-specific
or sector-specific, so the result is a fully-
rounded apprentice capable of filling the
most demanding of manufacturing and
engineering positions. The apprentices
are fully tutored in work behaviours and
engineering basics, but are also exposed to
the latest manufacturing technology.

apprenticeship development programmes

been a challenge for the engineering and
manufacturing sectors for many years.
As a measure of the respect that the AMTC’s
training programmes have earned in the
industry, the centre has been chosen to
replicate its success as the training provider
for a new centre in Oxfordshire to provide
the skills needed by industry in that region,
particularly in the field of atomic science.

a genuine return on investment and
business impact, while ensuring they
become increasingly globally competitive.
Lloyds Bank recently announced that it
is investing a further £5 million to fund
its sponsorship of the AMTC. The funding
doubles the bank’s original commitment,
bringing total funding to £10 million over
10 years. Lloyds sees the commitment as a
sound investment in the future of the UK
manufacturing sector and a major step in

As AMTC managing director Paul Rowlett
put it, “An AMTC-trained apprentice is a very
special asset. They are trained to do a job and
they can seed the pipeline to be the research
engineers and skilled technicians of the
future, filling vital roles.”
