Safe Isolation Procedures
Implementing safe isolation procedures
is essential for compliance with Electricity
at Work Regulations which are in place to
ensure that workers on site are not exposed
to danger when working on or near live
electrical systems.
With 16% of all fatalities at work being
electricity related, and the average fine for
health and safety offences trebling over the
last 2 years, it’s more important than ever
to be compliant with the Electricity at Work
Regulations when working on our near live
electrical system.
Following simple safe isolation procedures
and using the correct equipment can keep
you and your team safe and avoid heavy
penalties for non-compliance.
The six steps to safe isolation are: until all padlocks have been released.
1. Disconnect all loads
2. Locate the source of supply
3. Isolate the source of supply. Lock off and
place warning signs
4. Prove your voltage indicator using a
proving unit
5. Test the supply is isolated
6. Re-prove the voltage indicator using a
proving unit Cable loop length can be easily adjusted and
locked in place through a simple squeeze
action of the grip prior to securing with a
PAD10 padlock.
The New CABLOK Series The new range of adjustable cable
lockouts make it easy to ensure all types of
circuits can be de-energised and properly
isolated prior to maintenance of plant and
equipment, preventing potentially fatal
accidents and enabling compliance with
HSG85 Electricity at Work Regulations.
The three new CABLOKs provide installers
and maintenance teams with a simple and
reliable solution for locking off multiple
breakers, switches and valves, to prevent the
re-energising of circuits and systems during
maintenance as part of a safe isolation
procedure.
The latest range of adjustable cable lockouts
feature a flexible PVC-insulated steel cable
which is simple to thread and can be easily
adjusted to suit the required length before
locking off with a simple squeeze action.
Incorporating a built-in safety hasp, and
with space for up to six padlocks to be
securely fixed, the CABLOK enables multiple
operatives to safely work on the same
system at the same time. For additional
safety, the system cannot be re-energised
