German Component
Distribution: Record Result
In the fourth quarter 2017 the German
component distribution market grew by
12% to 845 million Euros. The order situation
remained very stable (plus 14% to 976 million
Euros and a book-to-bill rate of 1.16).
For the full year of 2017 companies registered
with the Fachverband Bauelemente
Distribution (www.FBDi.de) in Germany
reported a sales plus of 12% to 3.6 billion
Euros and incoming orders of 3.91 billion
Euros – a record result.
Apart from shortage and price increases
2017 was further affected by fluctuations in
exchange rates (Dollar/Euro), which nearly
compensated across all quarters. FBDi expects
a solid but not groundbreaking year 2018.

Armstrong Commercial Laundry
Systems
Walters Turkeys produces, plucks and hand
finishes 12,000 free range and organic turkeys
for the Christmas market every year.
In the weeks before Christmas with 45 staff
working on the farm and there is a continuous
need for clean overalls. Armstrong Commer-
cial Laundry Systems supplied and installed
a Horizon stacked washer/dryer unit two
years ago. Kate Walters says the machines
have been a great success. “We have been
very pleased with them,” she told us. “They
are in constant use throughout the busy five
weeks leading up to Christmas, the cycles are
thorough and quick and keep up with the
demand.. The rest of the year they are still
used for staff workwear, but the demand isn’t
near as high.”

Heraeus Infra-Red Helps Reduce
RSI at Jaguar Land Rover Riley Surface World awarded
ISO 9001:2015 certification Portable chemical dosing gives
plant managers flexibility
A custom-built, short wave infra-red oven
from Heraeus Noblelight is helping to facili-
tate the manual fitting of fuel pipe hoses to
the Jaguar XJ at Jaguar Land Rover’s Castle
Bromwich manufacturing site.The rubber fuel
pipes need to be fitted on the production line
but, because of the hardness of the rubber
and the tightness of the fit, operatives were
having trouble in securing the pipes. As a
result, samples of the hose were supplied to
the Heraeus Applications Centre in Neston,
Wirral, where successful trials were carried out
to devise an infra-red system. Riley Surface World is one of the world’s
leading resellers of new and used surface
finishing plant and machinery. The company
has been trading since 1966 and operates
from 5000 square metre premises in Aldridge,
West Midlands, UK. WES Group announces the introduction of the
company’s portable DosingCube™.
The system was eventually installed on the
Jaguar production line at the hose-fitting
location. It consists of a floor-standing alu-
minium framework, containing a controllable
4.8 kW heater zone, made up of two heater
modules, each fitted with four 600W short
wave emitters. The certification assessment programme was
overseen by Riley site director Dave Smith,
who has a strong background in the imple-
mentation and monitoring of ISO standards.

In recent years, Riley has invested heavily in
technology and people in order to become a
global force in the surface finishing industry.
The next logical step was to achieve ISO
9001:2015 certification to move the company
to a different level.

This fully enclosed chemical digital dosing
system is a lightweight, compact, has
a bunded unit and is a plug and play
solution. It is ideal for both temporary and
emergency use, to dose chemicals from
IBCs or other chemical storage facilities and
as an interchangeable modular system for
permanent dosing systems.
Having spent many years studying and
addressing the issues faced by process
plant managers, WES Group developed and
trademarked the DosingCube™ to offer users
a safe and secure, portable system. It can
be fully tailored to customer requirements,
including chemical specific colour options
and logos and the integral timer allows
dosing to be started and stopped at pre-set
times.
