Industry 4.0 cables & wires for
automated production
Flexibility, efficiency and digitisation. This is
industry 4.0 – the current subject of German
manufacturing industry. Due to the complete
linking and communication on all levels of the
production process considerable amelioration
with regard to productivity and flexibility may
result.
Today it is not quite clear how industry 4.0 in
fully automated production will look like. Nev-
ertheless, it is sure that a reliable transmission
of increasing data volumes due to the steadily
growing linking and communication of
machine parts even under the most difficult
conditions have to be ensured.
As a consequence cables especially for
machine construction, robotics or railway
techniques are subject to extreme torsional
stress and very high temperatures. These
cables get in contact with different chemicals,
oils or detergents.

Powerstax Powers Carbon
Capture Installation
Powerstax, one of Europe’s leading value-
added and industrial power solutions
manufacturers has supplied a high
power rectifier system to leading waste
management company Future Environmental
Technologies Ltd., for a carbon capture
installation at a factory in Wales.
“We were approached by Future
Environmental Technologies (FET) to
discuss a carbon capture application which
at the beginning presented us with many
unknowns” Comments Tim Worley, CEO of
Powerstax. ”At our initial concept meetings
we started to determine a specification for
the power requirements of the system but
output voltage was still not determined as it
was dependent on the requirements of the
chemistry utilised in the carbon capture cells.”

Intelligent Vibration Transmitter
The iT300 transmitter provides an easy means
to connect a standard vibration sensor to a
PLC, DCS or SCADA system. The transmitter’s
input provides power to and measures the
signal from either an accelerometer, piezove-
locity sensor or dual output sensor.
The input circuitry has a wide frequency
response, capable of measuring signals
between 0.2 Hz and 20,000 Hz. The transmit-
ter has two independent processing bands
with flexible mapping options to two 4-20mA
analog outputs.
The channels contain selectable integration,
allowing outputs as acceleration or velocity.

Hot water heater with touch
design
PolyIC will be showcasing mass applications
for its PolyTC capacitive sensors at this year’s
Embedded World at LOPEC from 14-15 March
in Munich.
The following series production touch
applications for white goods will be
exhibited: a front panel of a hot water heater
from A. O. Smith with touch control, and a
demonstrator for a sensor control panel that
has been successfully employed in several
washing machine models from BSH. Touch-
and gesture-controlled functionality for
automotive interior applications will also be
demonstrated.
Using a variety of door trims as examples, a
diverse range of options for day/night designs
and touch sensor controllable ambient
lighting will be presented.
