[email protected] www.seepex.com SEEPEX Smart Conveying Technology reduces costs for Severn Trent Water SEEPEX Progressive cavity pumps fitted with Smart Conveying Technology (SCT) were put to the test recently against conventional design progressive cavity (PC) pumps at Minworth WwTW. S evern Trent Water costs for PC pump maintenance were increasing – particularly for those pumps feeding a gravity belt thickener with primary sludge. Frequent maintenance (every 4-6 months) was needed to replace the rotor and stator, increasing labour and spares costs for the equipment. SEEPEX offered pumps fitted with Smart Conveying Technology SCT as a direct replacement for cost comparison purposes. The SCT design has a stator split in half axially, held in place with 4 retaining segments. The pump can be dismantled in place, enabling removal of blockages, and replacement of either the stator, the rotor, or both, without dismantling pipework. The quick release rotor means that universal joints do not need to be dismantled to change the rotor either. This design reduces maintenance time by up to 85% when compared to conventional PC pumps. SCT pumps have other advantages however, particularly when dealing with abrasive products, which have been proven to improve service life. The adjustable nature of the retaining segments allows re-tensioning of the stator as wear occurs, regaining optimum output each time and extending the stator life by up to 300%. Ragging issues are also reduced where SCT is used. At Minworth, the test was successful with the SEEPEX SCT pump outperforming conventional PC pump design by over 100%.
