Break Through Your Weight Loss Plateau
with Liz Hilliard
of Hilliard Studio Method
For many of us, we work out, eat well and just
cannot kick those last few pounds! These are
our three tried-and-true tips for breaking through
the plateau and reaching your goals. By picking
up heavier weights, dropping sugar and getting
plenty of protein throughout the day, you can
achieve the goals you have been reaching for!
Heavy Weights Don’t be afraid of heavy weights! At Hilliard Studio Method, we encourage clients to use
eight pound weights—even if it is just for a few reps. When you work your body to its edge through resistance
training you are not only creating a more sculpted physique by building lean muscle, but you are boosting your
metabolism. You will increase your calorie burn throughout the day, turning you into a fat-burning 747 on idle.
Say NO to Sugar It’s time to quit the white stuff, not just for your waistline but for your health. Sugar can
cause everything from cavities to cancer, is more addictive than cocaine and is hidden in many foods. We suggest carefully reading labels of packaged foods, looking for all the names of sugar including dextrose, honey,
turbinado and many more. If you are still looking for something to satisfy that sweet tooth, we love the natural
sweetness found in fresh fruit like blueberries, strawberries and watermelon as well as roasted veggies!
Pump the Protein A diet high in protein is crucial to building lean muscle mass, banishing unwanted fat
and reshaping your body. We always jump start our morning with the Hilliard Studio Method Signature Smoothie,
which boasts over 27 grams of protein and keeps us energized through a busy morning of classes. We continue
to consume protein-dense foods throughout the day by filling our plates with lentils, legumes, plain Greek yogurt,
dark leafy greens and fish. This keeps energy levels high, revs metabolism and helps maintain lean muscles.
