A mulberry high-gloss front door with
curry powder-coated door knocker
establishes an unexpected palette for
the interior. The client’s favorite color
was yellow, but instead of a standard
hue, the designers incorporated an
unusual saturated curry yellow that is
found throughout the first floor of the
home. The mulberry is repeated in a
lacquered sideboard by Chelsea Textiles
and custom powder-coated brass rods
that line the stairwell, starting with the
darkest shade at the bottom and getting
lighter on each stair.
Continuing the idea of feathers and
birds, an egg-like light fixture by
ceramicist Farrah Sit graces the entry.
A curry glaze on the inside of each
vessel connects the eye visually from
the door knocker and continues the
palette into the adjoining parlor.
The original plaster moldings and
marble mantels remain throughout
the house. In the parlor, a seating
arrangement consists of a leather sofa
by Hickory Chair and a pair of barrel back chairs—one vintage and one
replica that Joel and Erika fabricated to
complete the vignette. Vibrant drapery
panels by Martin Lawrence Bullard for
Schumacher at the window mimic the
colors found in a Brooklyn street scene
above the mantel. The juxtaposition of
