in Museum Design

Prior to the millennium, the architecture of the art museum was often as
predictable as the corpus of art shown
within the hallowed walls of such institutions. With a few notable exceptions
such as the Guggenheim in Manhattan
or the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the
design of museums was not on architecture’s cutting edge in the twentieth
century. However as the millennium
approached, modernism waned and
contemporary art as we know it began
to mushroom in forms not even formerly contemplated. Suddenly works
