FOOD + ENTERTAINING STRAWBERRY SHOOTER 1 pound fresh strawberries Juice of one lime, and one large piece of lime zest ¼ cup sugar ¼ cup water ¼ Jalapeño pepper, seeded ¼ cup lemon vodka TIP Hull strawberries and cut each in half. Bring strawberries, lime juice, one piece lime zest, sugar, water and jalapeño to a simmer in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Cook 5 minutes. Transfer to blender and pulse once. Strain mixture through a fine mesh sieve. Add vodka to strained mixture and chill in refrigerator. Pour chilled strawberry mixture into prepared glasses and serve immediately. Rub a lime on the glass rim and dip in sugar for a sweeter shooter. JULY AUGUST 2015 75
