THE COMFORTABLE EARL
Serves 4
Combine in the bottom of a 34-ounce French press :
4 tablespoons loose-leaf Earl Grey tea 12 green cardamom pods , burst 2 star anise 4 whole cloves 1 stick cinnamon Orange slice , quartered 12 whole allspice
Combine in the bottom of a mug :
1 tablespoon raw honey ( add more or less to taste )
½ ounce honey liqueur
NOTE : This is a loose framework for a Hot Toddy and can be refashioned in an infinite number of ways using a quality loose-leaf tea , complimentary spices or flavor additives , a sweetener , a liqueur and a base liquor . Try green tea , mint , cucumber , ginger liqueur and gin . Hibiscus tea , lemon zest , cointreau and vodka . There are so many possibilities to make this cocktail classic your own .
¾ ounce spiced rum ¾ ounce dark rum
Heat four cups of water to boiling and add to French press . Let steep for four minutes and press . Pour over contents of mug and stir to combine . Garnish with orange twist . Serve .
