Engaged This Summer?
Start Planning for More Than Just the Wedding
WRITTEN BY Robin M. Mermans, Esq. of ROAD to RESOLUTION
Summer is engagement season. Whether the proposal happened on a beach vacation, during a mountain getaway, or over a backyard dinner with family, saying“ yes” marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. Engaged!
It is also the beginning of one of the most significant legal and financial decisions you will ever make. Once the excitement settles, many couples quickly find themselves immersed in choosing venues, tasting cakes, selecting flowers, and finalizing guest lists. While these details help create a beautiful wedding day, they do very little to prepare you for the marriage that follows.
As a Collaborative Family Law attorney, I have worked with many couples at the end of their marriages. One lesson has become abundantly clear: the healthiest marriages are often built upon honest conversations long before the wedding day. Planning for your future together deserves just as much attention as planning your celebration.
