The North Carolina mountains are
near and dear to my heart as we live
less than two hours away. During our
steamy southern summers, this is a real
treat as it is usually about 20 degrees
cooler. Fall is an especially wonderful
time of year in the mountains with crisp
air and leaves changing to brilliant hues
of yellow, orange and red. There are so
many amazing places to visit.

In this issue, Bek Mitchell-Kidd writes
about two beautiful homes located
in Grandfather Golf & Country Club.
These mountain retreats, while very
different, are also similar in many
ways. One is a “modern rustic” home
designed by Holly Phillips with
expertly fused design elements. The
other, located just down the road and
designed by Lee Cooney, is a naturebased home filled with statement
artwork. The lovely garden featured in
this issue was designed with love by
landscape architect Laurie Durden for
her parents’ retreat. The hydrangeas
and white garden are a mix of hues
and textures that are sure to please all.
