GARDENS
Garden in the Sky
phase followed in 2011 . A third and final section , The High Line at the Rail Yards , will extend the line to 34th Street . The plans for the latest design feature , a large bowl-shaped structure containing gardens and a sunken plaza was unveiled in early November . This will be located at the Spur at 10th and 30th Streets .
The park was a collaboration among James Corner Field Operations landscape architects ; architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro ; and planting designer Piet Oudolf . They created large spaces for gathering , such as the 10th Avenue Square , and small spaces for intimate conversations .
I visited the High Line on a Tuesday in October . It was packed with residents and tourists alike who were enjoying the sunny day , eating their lunch and exploring the beauty . Walk the entire park and you will see extraordinary views of the Statue of Liberty , the Hudson River , Chelsea and the Meatpacking District .
Start at the Gansevoort Stair and experience the gradual transition from the honking taxis to the park ’ s serene landscape . The Gansevoort Woodland includes a grove of gray birch and the serviceberry trees provide visitors immediate greenery and shade .
