At the first community meeting , Joshua David and Robert Hammond , two residents of the neighborhood , met for the first time . Each agreed that the property should be saved but neither volunteered to take the lead . After subsequent discussions , they slowly but surely took on the monumental and complex process of working with politicians , philanthropists , city planners and many others to preserve and develop the High Line . As it was noted later , the duo was described as “ a pair of nobodies who took on an impossible mission .”
The High Line is located on the west side of Manhattan , extending from Gansevoort Street to West 30th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues . It has been developed in sections . The first phase opened in 2009 and the second
