POSITIONING FOR EARLY DETECTION & INTERVENTION NEW DEVELOPMENTS ESTHER SENIORS ACTIVITY CENTRE Our 5th Seniors Activity Centre located at Blk 61 Strathmore Avenue #01-02 opened its doors in May 2018. The centre aims to reach out in partnership with the community to engage and support the elderly aged 50 and above to age-in-place for as long as possible, by enabling the elderly to lead active and meaningful lives. PARENTSPLUS ABCD (ABECEDARIAN BASED CHILD DEVELOPMENT) KID’S PROGRAMME PARENTSPLUS is an Irish charity that has developed five evidence-based parenting course promoting confidence, learning and positive behavior in children and adolescents. Four staff attended the Facilitator Training in Early Years and Children’s programme organized by Filos Community Services. The first group of parent training is scheduled to be conducted in mid-November 2018 and with more runs in 2019. The Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA), in collaboration with Temasek Foundation Cares, will pilot Abecedarian Based Child Development Kid’s Programme (ABCD). The prog- ramme aims to better support the early development of infants and toddlers from low-income families in selected preschools. PCS is one of the selected organizations to pilot the programme in 2019. Currently, 22 of PCS staff are trained in Abecedarian Approach (AA) which is a set of strong teaching and learning strategies that build strong adult-child interactions. The ABCD programme will be piloted in PCS Woodlands Childcare and PCS Yishun Childcare is selected to be the control centre. 16
