The library’s Book Discussion Group will have its monthly meeting on
Tuesday, October 13: 9:30 – 10:45am. The group is reading, Holding
the Line: Women in the Great Arizona Mine Strike of 1983, by Barbara
Kingsolver. This true story centers on the women of families during
the 1983 Arizona mining strike against Phelps Dodge Copper. These
women held the line, picketing the mines as the unionized men were
barred from picketing. The book recounts the challenges these
women faced, even with the dangerous presented by the mining
company and with the National Guard occupying the mining towns.
The library has copies of the book available for checkout. So, come
in to the library to pick up a copy of the book, and then come for the
discussion. Light refreshments will be provided for this fun and lively
