Why Children Should Wear
Sunglasses
Statistics show that approximately 73% of adults wear
sunglasses, but children only average about 30%. We are in
one of the highest zones of UV radiation exposure due to our
elevation and lattitude. And of course there are those summer
vacation days at the beach. The majority of children spend
much more time outdoors than adults, therefore it is likely that
most of their life exposure to the sun occurs within the
first 20 years of their life.
The lens of a child’s eye transmitts about 70% more UV than
the adult eye, putting their eyes at a larger risk. Kids under
10 are at a higher risk for both skin and eye damage because
their skin and eyes are more fragile. Kids look up more, which
means they are constantly looking up into the sun. Hats only
