Why Children Should Wear Sunglasses Statistics show that approximately 73% of adults wear sunglasses, but children only average about 30%. We are in one of the highest zones of UV radiation exposure due to our elevation and lattitude. And of course there are those summer vacation days at the beach. The majority of children spend much more time outdoors than adults, therefore it is likely that most of their life exposure to the sun occurs within the first 20 years of their life. The lens of a child’s eye transmitts about 70% more UV than the adult eye, putting their eyes at a larger risk. Kids under 10 are at a higher risk for both skin and eye damage because their skin and eyes are more fragile. Kids look up more, which means they are constantly looking up into the sun.
