Make Eye Care a Family Affair for 2018 HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! At every age, your family members can benefit from regular eye care.  From the very young to the young at heart, regular eye exams are important to keeping everyone in your family productive and well.  Roughly 232 million Americans require vision correction.  It is estimated that nearly 30 million of those people are going uncorrected. Besides checking all aspects of your vision, comprehensive eye exams can sometimes reveal signs of certain undiagnosed health conditions such as high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes.  For the sake of your loved ones’ health and well-being, make getting an annual eye exam a part of your family’s health care routine, just like going to the dentist or getting a physical. For children, about 80% of what they learn in their first 12 years comes through the eyes.  Up to 25% of children have vision problems that can affect learning and social skills.  Give your children the ability to do their best possible. For adults, visual needs change as we change how we use our eyes. Different occupations and tasks require different visual skills. Also, changes take place within the eyes as we age, which contribute to the need for corrective lenses.  Visual fatigue, headaches and difficulty doing everyday tasks can usually be relieved with eyeglasses or contact lenses.  Yearly exams will also help detect early signs of eye diseases so you can keep your eyes healthy. For seniors, annual exams are even more important.  Vision loss can contribute to lost independence among older Americans.  Serious eye conditions like macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataracts are most prevalent in people over the age of 60.  Early detection is the key to the most effective treatment of these conditions. No matter what your age, if you haven’t had your eyes examined in awhile, there’s no better time than NOW to schedule an appointment. While you’re at it, encourage everyone in your family to see the benefits of good eye care. Wishing you another year of great vision!
