Democracy ’ s Loose Ends
Whether youʼre feeling postelection joy , sorrow , or rage , those feelings may fade or even change after January 20th . Hopefully , thatʼs when all politicians and populous start coalescing with a goal of preserving our democracy .

I also hope you read the remainder of this article with an openness to possible thoughtprovoking ideas . I personally feel governments and their political leaders should always be open to a careful scrutiny that may be a prelude to a possible overhaul . So , for the remainder of this article , try to remember that all government leaders and our population are laden with flaws , imperfect strategies , and beliefs that may periodically require consensually validated changes . Without harping about our tolerance for those inevitable imperfections , I personally believe that , despite stonewalling resistance by a Republican Congress , President Obama will prevail throughout history as the first black U . S . president . Although Hillary Clinton lost the election , she will be historically remembered as the first female in our nation to win the popular vote for president . Both of these accomplishments represent long overdue racial and gender political ʻtune-ups . ʼ While weʼre at it , in my opinion , the ʻElectoral Collegeʼ still remains an exceptionally stubborn and regrettable ʻdemocratic loose end . ʼ In considering the once open gender and slavery inequalities that are no longer election relevant , the Electoral College should have dissolved years ago . Today the Electoral College is not only unnecessary , it has become a cumbersome obstacle to the clear , straight forward , originally intended democratic way of choosing the next president by a popular vote . Putting it bluntly , the majority of our 2016 voters for their new president are probably thinking , “ Gee I voted for the candidate who won the majority of the votes and lost to its ʻloserʼ who won the election .” ( Via the Electoral College ) Since we now have acquired a Republican president ready to embrace a Republican Congress , our democratic form of government may continue to become impotent without some sort of bipartisan political compromises .
