A Taste of Wine
Wine and romance often go hand in hand. Cupid suggests
everything from fancy Valentine’s Day dinner reservations
to something a little simpler like wine and roses, or pairing
scrumptious chocolates with a classy glass of vino.
For me, an ideal Valentine’s Day would go something like this:
(1) Wake up to the smell of fresh ground coffee brewing and
feeling incredibly well rested.
(2) Enjoy a fun yet super challenging workout in the gym.
(3) Sip on that fine coffee while sitting at my wonderful
hubby’s side.
(4) Open gifts wrapped in pretty pink and red packaging which
contain delicious chocolates with cream filling, but no calories,
and fine wines of various varietals.
(5) Lounge about with my hubby munching on those caloriefree chocolates while little elf cupids vacuum the house, wash
the windows, and prepare a gourmet meal with which to pair
those fine wines.
You may be wondering “what wines would pair well with a
Valentine’s Day meal?” We would start with a refreshing and
crisp Rosé in anticipation of exchanging winter weather for
the warmer sparks of spring. That would be served with the
leading soup and salad which would be rich, yet light shrimp
bisque and a spinach, artichoke, and avocado salad with a
citrus vinaigrette dressing. One of my favorite bottles of Rosé
is a 2010 Bieler Père et Fils Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence Rosé
(~$11). The main course would be a grilled Chilean Sea Bass
with roasted asparagus and brussels sprouts. This would be
accompanied by a 2012 Klinker Brick Lodi Old Vine Red
Zinfandel (~$15). The dessert would a
few of those scrumptious chocolates with
strawberries paired with a sip of 2009
Osborne Late Bottle Vintage Port (~$18).
Happy tasting! And, have a February filled
with love, romance, and great wine!

All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.
