Tanya Baker Tanya’s family moved to Dewey in 1978, before
any roads in Dewey were paved except highway 69 which was
only 2 lanes with no stop lights. If you wanted to call someone
on the telephone you had to first check to see if the party line
was being used, telephone numbers were only 4 digits long and
calling Prescott Valley was considered long distance! Tanya
use to ride her horse from the back
of Blue Hills, down the main
road to what was called the
Blue Hills Market (now
the Blue Ridge Market)
and she’d never even see a
car, she would wait around
for someone to pull up to the
market and ask them to hold her
horse so she could go in and buy a
soda & candy bar. Times, they have a changed! Tanya is still
here and now owns multiple businesses in the Dewey area.
Settler Valley Ranch Tanya and her husband Rod began Settler
Valley Ranch, located in Dewey, over 11 years ago. Neither of
them was raised on a ranch or came from ranching families
although they both always had the desire to raise their children
in that lifestyle. “We began piecing the ranch together about
11 years ago”, Tanya said, “It has taken time, patience, sweat
& blood to grow to where we are today”. Today, Settler Valley
