PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Thank You, Members! Jessica Callow 2019-20 PBCBA President As I write my first President’s Message, I reflect back on my introduction to the Palm Beach County Bar Association. I arrived in Florida via Kansas City, Missouri. In the Summer of 2003, I was a law student at the University of Florida Levin College of Law and interning at the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit. I attended the Installation Banquet as a guest of my cousin, Lorie Gleim, and was awed by the collegiality and genuine friendships observed between the members of the Bar. While I understood the legal profession would be austere when appropriate, it was refreshing to see that attorneys and judges also danced, had fun and simply enjoyed being together. That was the day I knew Palm Beach County would become my home, and this legal community has not disappointed. I am now honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve as President of the Palm Beach County Bar Association, but I did not get here without a lot of help. Fortunately, I had the support and encouragement of my family, first Ciklin Lubitz and now Office Depot colleagues, friends and fellow voluntary bar members. Additionally, leading this Bar is a true team effort. The Board of Directors, Bar staff, Young Lawyers and North County Section leaders and committee chairs work extremely hard. Their commitment to the Palm Beach County Bar Association is unparalleled. I owe a debt of gratitude to everyone that has supported and expressed confidence in me. In return, my promise to everyone is that my commitment to this Bar will be unwavering and my appreciation for our members will be expressed frequently. Upon starting my career in West Palm Beach, I quickly learned that the Palm Beach County Bar Association was the best place to network with attorneys from all practice areas and experience levels. The Bar provides opportunities to meet friends, mentors and judges, fulfill CLE requirements, foster referral relationships, provide pro bono services and give back to our community. Your Board of Directors and Bar staff tirelessly strive to ensure this Bar is the best in the State, but we recognize that this Bar would be nothing without our members. You and your fellow members generously volunteer your time to serve on our committees and Sections, plan and attend our events, support and participate in our charitable projects, and mentor young attorneys. Our goal is to make sure that our members are recognized for their efforts even though you have not asked for such credit. The Bulletin will feature additional member highlights this year, including recognition of the work performed by our Section and committee members, as well as our members’ community involvement, interests and talents that fall outside the practice of law. Please submit PBCBA member highlights for yourself or others at memberhighlights@ palmbeachbar.org. Highlights PBCBA BAR BULLETIN 3 submitted may be featured in future issues of the Bulletin, e-newsletters and social media pages. In the spirit of recognizing our members, I am taking this opportunity to feature an informal member highlight of our Immediate Past President, Greg Huber. Greg is a founding partner of the Zele Huber law firm, Board Certified in Civil Trial Law and focuses his practice on personal injury matters. While those accomplishments are laudable, I’ve seen firsthand the genuine joy Greg gets from spending time with his girlfriend, Jen, and children, Jade and Janson. When he’s not cheering Jade on at her Dreyfoos School of the Arts performances or changing Janson’s diapers, Greg enjoys surfing, country music concerts and the occasional microbrew. I know I don’t speak for just myself when I say that we cannot bestow enough praise on Greg for his service to the Bar last year and for many years prior. Greg previously chaired the Bench Bar Conference, served as Board liaison to our CLE committees and evaluated and advised on the Bar’s technology needs. Last year, Greg led this Bar with humility and dedication, but above all, with humor. He takes his practice and bar service seriously, but never himself. Thankfully, Greg serves on our Board for one more year and we receive the benefit of his continued leadership. Thank you, Greg, for your service and friendship! Thank you all again for this opportunity to serve the Palm Beach County Bar Association and our legal community. Please reach out to me and the rest of the Board with any ideas, comments or concerns. Your feedback means so much to us. We can be reached at pbcba-bod@ palmbeachbar.org.
