Guild of Catholic Lawyers Annual Red Mass 2019 The Red Mass invokes the Holy Spirit’s wisdom, understanding, blessing and guidance in the administration of justice for the coming year. It is attended by judges, lawyers, government officials, and peoples of all faiths. In Palm Beach County, the first Red Mass was celebrated on February 3, 1980, at St. Edward Church in Palm Beach. Thereafter, the Guild of Catholic Lawyers of the Diocese of Palm Beach was established and annually presents the Red Mass as a public service to the Bench and Bar of the Diocese of Palm Beach. Legal Aid Establishes the Judge Meenu Sasser Children’s Emergency Fund The Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County is proud to announce the establishment of the Judge Meenu Sasser Children’s Emergency Fund in honor and memory of the outstanding jurist and individual Judge Meenu Sasser. In addition to Judge Sasser’s state and national reputation as a brilliant, impartial and compassionate jurist, she was also a devoted friend and supporter of the Legal Aid Society’s mission of ensuring equal access to justice to all residents of our community. Judge Sasser was especially drawn to Legal Aid’s children’s advocacy projects which provide representation to our county’s most vulnerable and at risk children. She strongly encouraged members of the private bar to provide pro bono legal services for these youngsters as well as for learning impaired children in our county’s public school system, to ensure they receive all the services mandated under state and federal law. We are extremely grateful for the many generous contributions totaling over $45,000 which was donated from all over the state and country in memory of Judge Sasser allowing Legal Aid to establish this fund in her name. The Judge Meenu Sasser Children’s Emergency Fund will augment the legal services Legal Aid provides to the most fragile children and families in Palm Beach County and will help to make a positive impact on their lives. The fund provides financial assistance to pay for basic necessities for Legal Aid’s young clients and families, such as medicine, beds, cribs, bedding, utility and rent payment assistance, groceries, PBCBA BAR BULLETIN 7 infant car seats, clothing, and school supplies.
