A Note From The Editor :
I don ' t follow football , or any sports at all , really . But it ' s hard not to get caught up in all the excitement and hype about the Super Bowl every year , even if you only watch for the commercials . It ' s also difficult to fathom how any company can spend $ 7 million dollars on a thirty second ad . I only watched a few online , after the game . The dog ones were awesome , but still ... seven million dollars ?? I caught one rather lame one when I walked in the living room during the game . I remarked to my husband that I ' d be much more inclined to buy their product if they donated that money to a great cause rather than spend such an exorbitant amount on a commercial . Then I heard something that really made me smile . One of the Kansas City Chiefs , defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi , paid adoption fees for all the dogs waiting for a home at the KC Pet Project . The Derrick Nnadi Foundation , in fact , partnered with this no-kill shelter all season , and Derrick paid for one dog ' s adoption every time the Chiefs won a game . That amounted to 15 dogs throughout the season , and 108 after the Super Bowl . So wonderful ! It ' s often said that athletes who make oodles of money are idolized and treated like heroes , when they don ' t really deserve it . But there are some that do realize their great fortune and the example they set with how they handle it . Derrick Nnadi is certainly one of them - hopefully , more will follow his generous , heartwarming lead !
