BATMAN AGE 4-7
VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA
Domestic
Batman, came to us as a stray cat, he had been hanging around for over a year and we had been putting food out for him. We couldn't get
near him as he was quite nasty. He would show up every now and then for a feed which we obliged. This continued for about a year and then
one day he just vanished for a couple of months to which I thought the worst. Then back in August 2013 he appeared one night and came
straight in the front door and would not leave, we were able to pat him at this stage but not pick him up so I grabbed a cat carrier and placed
him down into our spare bathroom where he would remain until morning so I could take him to the vet and have him scanned for a chip to
see if anyone owned him, he was not keeping any food down at this point either. He did not have any chips and we did blood tests to check
for any diseases which he was free of. The vet then took an xray of his abdomen to which they found a blockage. We went ahead with the
surgery and the vet removed the top of a sausage mince wrapper (the metal closure still attached around the plastic). We brought him home
and he lived in our bathroom while he got better and recovered from major surgery. Once he had recovered we then had him desexed and
vaccinated, also micro chipped in my name. He wasn't going anywhere he was now part of our family. He was an adult cat and he showed us
love straight away. He had chosen us! We had other cats in our household to which he did not respond to very well so I had to have a water
pistol handy for him, he soon realized he was doing the wrong thing and as soon as I would raise my voice he would stop, unless of course I
turned my back. He really was becoming part of our family, his inner kitten came out and he loved to play, I brought him many toys as he was
very rough and they would not last that long. Every time he came running around the house in one of his crazy moods I would instantly smile
knowing we gave this beautiful cat a home he so wanted. We believe he was brought out to the country and dumped by someone. On the
30/12/13 when he began throwing up and went off his food, I rushed him to the vet and was not sure about maybe a snake bite but he was
not showing common signs for this so the vet just put him on the intravenous and we left him there to see if we could get to the bottom of
his illness. Well it just got worse, on New Years Eve they did a blood test and his Kidneys were shutting down, he went into Acute Renal
Failure, we had to make the decision on New Years Day to Say goodbye as he could not urinate and hadn't done for over 36hours. His death
has hit me very hard and I am going to miss our little savior very much, it has left a huge hole in my heart. Here is a poem I wrote for him.
Batman our friend You came to us in your time of need We gave you a roof over your head A place to call home Even your own bed Never
again would you hunt for a feed A bowl for you whenever you need Your inner kitten came out to play Our little nutter I used to say I’ll never
forget that YOU chose us We thank you for the time we had Although I wish it had have been longer We gave you a life, you never once had
With food and toys And a great comfy pad For now my friend you are at rest Even though you have left a hole in my chest You are free to
roam wherever you please And safe from harm or any disease I hope to see you again one day little friend Where our time will never end.
