This year will be the best ever! In order for you to keep up with all the fun, read the Paws Romana, your reliable and comprehensive newsletter (which is what you are reading right now). My goals this year as your Publications Editor are to create informative, concise, and aesthetically pleasing magazine-esque newsletters. As part of my goals, I have included in the first issue several more secularly related classical articles. I also added a new report column for officers to give a sneak peak at new events, plans, or even community services. Remember to check out the BLSJCL website and social media (which provides more frequent updates. Now,I implore those interested in the classics, whether for the thrill or for the glory of JCL, to follow up on endeavors by fellow enthusiasts of the classics. Get ready to have some fun, because the BLSJCL publicity team has a lot of fun things planned for the 20162017 school year! We already have a few events planned for the end of October since Halloween is coming up such as pumpkin painting and a group costume theme, so be sure to keep a watch out on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) so you don’t miss any important BLSJCL announcements or event details. Speaking of social media, we will also have a variety of fun contests for you to enter this year, especially if you consider yourself to be artistically inclined. We will be holding a new banner design contest every month and maybe even a merch design contest! If you love to draw, paint, design, or take photos, this is the perfect opportunity for you to put that to good use and maybe even win some prizes for your efforts. Is art not your specialty? Don’t worry, we’ll have lots of other contests, too! More updates will be sent out at a later date, so stay tuned and check your feed for more details once they are set in stone. Facebook Instagram Twitter Snapchat Tumblr Social media, however, is not the only place where you will be seeing changes. There will also be a variety of fun events throughout the year. One of them, which might already sound familiar, is our annual Lupercalia event in February. This year is going to be a great one, and we hope that you can join in and help the club grow by participating in some of the publicity activities and supporting us in general. Let’s go for the gold this year and publicize our way to the top! “... A variety of fun events throughout the year. ” Collage PC: BLSJCL Historians IN THIS ISSUE logo by : INA BEINBORN We’re pleased to introduce you to the 2016-2017 school year! As all your classwork, homework, and extracurricular activities pile up, we’d like to ask you to take a quick look at our Junior Classical League (JCL) chapter. At its core, the JCL is a club that allows students the opportunity to explore their interests in the civilizations of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. All of you who are into Latin and Percy Jackson, or just want to get involved are welcome to join! If you’re especially into Latin grammar, history, myth or culture, we also encourage you to join Certamen, a quiz-bowl game. Similar to Jeopardy, Certamen involves answering a wide variety of questions using a buzzer machine. Even if you’re not that interested in Latin, you can still join! There are many different events throughout the year such as conventions. At States and National Conventions, you can compete in academics, graphic arts, performance arts (like declamation), and athletics! So whether you’re an artist or an athlete, there are always events for you. If you’re the type of a person who likes being involved in a lot of events and competitions and meeting a lot of new people, then JCL is the club for you!
