Off the beaten path--only a side
trip with barely a mention in
the guidebooks--is found the
breathtaking Vintgar Gorge.
Rocky cliffs sandwich the river
below, which is spanned by a
wooden walkway built directly
into the rock face. On a wet
October afternoon, we found
ourselves transported into
a wonderland of color and
sound and stillness. Our hour
long stroll culminated at a
secluded waterfall in the
woods. What a memorable way
to while away an afternoon. If
you are ever near Lake Bled or
Triglav National Park, Slovenia,
don’t miss this hidden treasure.

When planning your travel itinerary
through Croatia, make sure to stop in
Zagreb, a great city with plenty of historic
charm. In the upper town, after seeing an
amazing panoramic view of the city, you’ll
find the Church of St. Mark with its
colorful tiled roof depicting two of
Croatia’s coats of arms. A walk through
the upper town will take you to a handful of museums, of both art and history.
