National Essay Contest

Thanks to all of the PCVs, ELTAM members, counterparts,
the American Corners Macedonia and local organizations
that made the 2008 National
English Essay Contest a success this year! Through your
efforts, 331 essays were submitted this year from over 50
schools. Additionally, over
75 teachers received training
in how to teach essay writing
during workshops throughout
Macedonia. PCVs and other
teachers encouraged their students to write English essays
on the topic of “Sharing in
Your Community.”
There were over 40 regional winners who received
recognition and English books for their efforts. The three national winners were invited to Skopje to read their essays at
the awards ceremony where
they received books from the
American Corner, recognition, and a grand prize from
the Hotel Association of
Macedonia: a two night stay
in Ohrid at Hotel Granit.

pleasure being involved and
watching it grow. This truly is
a joint project between Macedonians and PCVs all over the
country and couldn’t be successful without everybody’s
help. The torch is now passed
to all of you, with the leadership of MAK 12s Jennifer Sandstrom and Margaret O’Hora. So sreka!
