t was a rainy, windy day in Macedonia: one that made the rain come sideways from the sky. The sky suddenly gave a great belch
and all the windows began to leak in earnest.
With an immediate response you wish you could clone, they called a repair man to come and fix the windows. While the nice man
took his caulking gun around sealing the windows, I stepped into the hall to talk with my counterpart. After a few minutes we
returned to the office.
I sat at my desk as usual.
A little while later, I stood up to leave for the day. When I did, I noticed something in my seat. There was caulk on my seat. I
immediately felt my pants. Caulk on my white linen pants! I said, “Oh, no! There is caulk on my pants.”
The whole office went silent. My counterpart replied, “What?”
“He got caulk in my seat, and now it is on my pants. Once you get caulk on your clothes, it never really comes off. Oh, who does
that? Who leaves caulk in someone’s seat? He should have cleaned up his caulking or told someone. Now I‘m going to have to try
and scrape caulk off the seat of my pants for the next few hours!”
My counterpart: “What?”
“Caulk, you know caulk for the windows.” I started to realize what I had just said to everyone, and
how it must have sounded.
“So that’s what that’s called.” He chokes out.
“Ummm, yeah. It is spelled differently.”
“I’m sorry there’s caulk on your pants.”
And so we laughed.
