Tamil Yeoman declared as the State Butterfly of Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu state government had declared Tamil Yeoman - Cirrochora thais as state butterfly on 28th June 2019. With this
declaration, Tamil Nadu has became the fifth state in India to have its state butterfly followed by Uttarkhand (Common
Peacock), Karnataka (Southern Birdwing), Maharastra (Blue Mormon), Kerala (Malabar Banded Peacock). This is the latest
addition to Tamil Nadu’s existing symbols from the natural world – Palmyra as the state tree, gloriosa lily as the state flower,
emerald dove as the state bird, jackfruit as the state fruit and Nilgiri Tahr as the state animal.
