Bariatric Pre-admission Instructions
• The day before surgery you may eat a regular breakfast. Starting at 12
noon, only drink clear liquids. Do not eat or drink at all after midnight
the night before your surgery unless otherwise instructed by your
doctor.
• Your doctor will tell you which medications you should take the
morning of your surgery. Take them with only a small sip of water.
• Do not use any non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory medications, Vitamin
E or weight-loss medications for two (2) weeks before surgery. You also
are not allowed to take any Non-Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs
(NSAIDs) after bariatric surgery due to the risk of developing ulcers.
Examples of NSAIDS include Motrin, Ibuprofen, ASA, Aleve, Naprosyn,
or products containing these medications. Always be sure to check
medication labels and talk with a pharmacist if you have questions.
• Do not wear any jewelry or makeup the day of your surgery. Also be
sure to remove all piercings. You should not use any lotions, powders,
creams, colognes or perfumes the day of surgery.
Be sure to bring these items from home:
• CPAP machine (please have this with you at the Pre Op area)
• Insurance card and a photo ID, along with any financial copayments or
payments
• Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing
• Incentive Spirometer
• Personal care supplies
Do not bring any valuables to the hospital
