Pathways to College Pathways to College 2018-2019 Year in Review | Page 2
Dear K-12 Partners
During the 2018-19 academic year, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College
(NWTC) continued to partner with K-12 to advance college education in
our region. NWTC has utilized dual credit programming as a key strategy
to accelerate college readiness, college transitions, college persistence and
completion. With the adoption of the NWTC 2023 Strategic Directions, we
continue to strengthen the college’s commitment to the community with
its emphasis on the preparation of K-12 students for successful careers
following completion of college credentials. These efforts will look to expand
early college initiatives, partner in the Academic Career Planning (ACP)
process, collaborate in attaining core college skills, and facilitate employer
engagement. With annual curriculum sharing events, faculty mentoring and
Train the Trainer courses, NWTC provides professional development for
K-12 instructors to grow dual credit options directly in your buildings. As
teacher credentialing requirements change with our accrediting body, the
Higher Learning Commission (HLC), our institution has partnered regionally
to inform legislators and to seek grant funding to support teachers pursuing
the necessary HLC required credentials. NWTC has every intention to
continue to offer robust dual credit offerings.
NWTC continues to collaborate with K-12 through TECH NOW K-12
partnerships, providing intentional career pathways that align with labor
market needs. The rigorous curriculum provides challenging opportunities
to students that builds confidence and successful transition to post-
secondary education. This continued work aligns with the NWTC strategic
directions that focus specifically on pre-college opportunities and further
enhancements to our relationships and support of K-12. TECH NOW
partnerships offer a level playing field for educational opportunity and career
exploration regardless of geographic or socioeconomic considerations.
This annual report provides a detailed update on early college experiences
developed in partnership with our K-12 collaborators. After review, please
feel free to reach out with inquiries or feedback on future developments.
Collaboratively, we seek to advance the college education necessary to
prepare your graduates with skills and knowledge that will provide a family
sustaining career, strong communities, and the vitality of local businesses.
We do this through customizing the college’s educational offerings within
and along- side our district partners. As president of Northeast Wisconsin
Technical College, I greatly appreciate all that you do for the youth of our
region and look forward to the continued growth of our partnerships.
Sincerely,
