4 Discovering new talent Opening acts are actually one of my favourite parts about seeing live music. It’s a great way to support and discover new artists. Plenty of bands and singers I have found out about because they were opening for the headlining band. Usually, the supporting acts are similar in style or genre to the main performer, so it’s no different than looking online which artists are similar. 3 Supporting artists Whether you are an award winning and bestselling artist or new to the scene, every single artist has started small. Supportive fans help the artist gain recognition. When you attend a show, you are showing your dedication to the actor or singer. Ultimately, it will result in more opportunities for them to perform, and for you to see them. 2 The atmosphere and energy Honestly, I could’ve saved money by just buying concert DVDS instead of seeing someone live. While I do enjoy the medium, it is not the same as actually seeing the performer up close. The collective energy and excitement of the crowd is like no other. Once the lights go out, all that matters is that you are passionate about the artist, not how you heard of them or how many songs you know. 1 BEING CLOSE TO THE PERFORMER Want to go to a concert but the all the main floor seats are taken? Don’t worry! You are still closer to the performer than most would be. Whether you are right by the stage or occupying the balcony, you are in the same room as someone whose work you admire. It is one of the most exciting things in the world. Written by Emily Stewart I
